Just an hour away from Edinburgh, seven forests dot the valley of the River Tweed.  There’s a forest for you whether you’re looking for a quiet picnic, the chance to look for wildlife, a tree-top adventure, a glimpse of the valley’s prehistoric past or some of Britain’s best mountain biking. Glentress: World-class mountain biking, world-class walking and tree-top thrills.  There’s a great café and the Tweed Valley Osprey Project too! Cardrona: Miles of trails wander through this forest, ideal for quiet walks or cross-country horse rides. Cademuir: A charming forest on the outskirts of Peebles, with beautiful trails through a woodland full of birds. Thornielee: Get away from the crowds and find meadows where butterflies flutter in summer. Yair: Come here for the beautiful Glenkinnon Biodiversity walk, lovely views over the river or a challenging walk on part of the Southern Upland Way to the Three Brethren Cairn. 7stanes Innerleithen: Home to some of Scotland’s top downhill mountain bike trails. Caberston: Walk up from Innerleithen village to discover the hill top fort and views from Pirn Hill.  The short, steep climb is well worth it! Scotland’s national forests and land are yours to explore, throughout Scotland.  Find out more at forestryandland.gov.scot
