Scottish Seabird Centre

Wildlife Wonders

Get closer to nature and enjoy a great day out at the seaside at the Scottish Seabird Centre, North Berwick, just 35 minutes from Edinburgh.

The Scottish Seabird Centre is a marine conservation and education charity supported by an award-winning visitor centre, in the beautiful coastal town of North Berwick.

Explore the wonders of Scotland’s seas in their Discovery Experience.

The exhibits, games and interactive live cameras on the local islands bring the wonders of Scotland's exceptional marine wildlife and habitats to life. The islands in the Firth of Forth are home to internationally important breeding seabird colonies. These include National Nature Reserve the Isle of May, home to one of the largest puffin colonies on the East Coast of Britain; and the iconic Bass Rock, the largest colony of Northern gannets on the planet!

Almost 500,000 seabirds breed in this area over the peak summer months. The seasonal guided wildlife boat trips are an ideal way to experience the sights, sounds and smells of these spectacular seabird cities. Choose from a half day landing trip to the Isle of May, a family friendly round island catamaran cruise, an unforgettable photography experience on the Bass Rock, or an exhilarating 3-islands trip on the Seafari RIB (rigid inflatable boat).

Seabirds are not the only draw for this area so don’t forget to look out for bottlenose dolphins, minke whale and grey seals.

Open daily, the seabird café offers locally sourced produce, vegan and gluten free options and boasts fantastic views across the Firth of Forth to the Bass Rock. The thoughtfully stocked gift shop offers a range of sustainable, local treats to take home at the end of a fun-filled day.

A changing programme of exhibitions and events, from wildlife beach tours to rock pooling sessions and live science shows, ensures there’s more to see with every visit.
