Lutra Grampia is a small, independent, values-led organisation, supporting Scottish otter conservation through practical action, education and advocacy, guided walks and workshops, population research and otter-specific ecological consultancy.
We work from a foundation which aims to connect people, otters and conservation through education and memorable experiences, and aim to give back to local projects, organisations and groups supporting otters and their habitats through all of our activities. Our work has also been designed to maximise community benefit, financially and practically.
We currently run otter ecology walks across Fife - guiding people in how to interpret otter field signs while introducing broader aspects of otter ecology, biology, behaviour and conservation, as well as how it all fits into conservation in the local area. We also offer two-day otter watching workshops on the Isle of Tiree in April and September, combining otter and wider wildlife watching, survey skills, citizen science, supporting Tiree Ranger Service with practical conservation tasks, exclusive creative workshops with Tiree Makery, meals at the local cafe and restaurant and more.
Across Fife and east Scotland we can provide bespoke presentations and education sessions, as well as block programmes for schools and community groups, with any practical activities delivered on their local coastline or river. We offer specialist ecological advice and surveys, and have a particular interest in collaborating on projects in the coastal environments we've carved out a niche within.
We also have 10 years' experience in otter mortality mapping and mitigation, while operating east-central Scotland's otter carcass collection point in partnership with Cardiff University Otter Project and the International Otter Survival Fund. Our founder has worked with multiple otter species across a range of settings for over 15 years and is an active member of the IUCN SSC Otter Specialist Group.
